During my herbal training, we learned how to make ginger poultices. When someone applied several ginger poultices onto my kidney area, I slept straight through the night for the first time in two years.

Grate  some fresh organic ginger root into a glass or stainless steel pan of filtered  water. Bring to a boil, then simmer until the water turns slightly yellow (15 to 20 minutes). Strain the ginger out and then take both ends of a thin towel (dish towel) and dip the middle into the water. Twist to wring out the excess liquid. Make sure the temperature is not too hot, and apply to back (right above the waist area). Leave on til it starts to cool, and then reapply to keep the area warm for several applications. Very comforting, soothing, and wonderful for kidney health.

Moxabustion is a method that stimulates the flow of Qi, Blood and Fluid to improve circulation and to warm cold areas of the body. It is highly effective for injuries, such as sprains or trauma.  In Traditional Chinese Therapy, moxa is used to remove cold and dampness from the body, to relieve stagnation, support the immune system and to promote normal organ functioning.

Cupping is an ancient Chinese therapy wherein glass or silicone suction cups are placed on the body. The suction is another powerful way to relieve stagnation in the body. At Herbal Vital Health, silicone cups are used. The cups are usually held in place for 10 to 20 minutes or can be used in a flowing motion all along the spine or across the shoulders.

Gua Sha (a gentle scraping therapy on the skin) is used to lift stagnation out of the muscles.
