Herbal Background:

Beverly is a trained clinical herbalist, and a professional member registered with the American Herbalist Guild. She is a graduate of the East West School of Herbology, (her teachers are world renowned authors and Master Herbalists Lesley and Michael Tierra, LAc.). She formally mentored with Michael Tierra, OMD, for one year at the East West Acupuncture Clinic in Santa Cruz, CA. She also completed a ten month herbal apprenticeship with Keith Latham, Acupuncture Physician and Chinese Herbalist in Tequesta, Florida in 2002.

As an herbalist, her professional training included the study of Chinese, Western and Ayurvedic healing systems and an in-depth study of herbal materia medica and formulary for Chinese and Western herbs. The East West School teaches excellent, hands-on training in the Traditional Chinese Medicinal art of tongue, pulse and hara assessment, including herbal, dietary, nutritional and lifestyle pattern assessments. “One of the most exciting things I love about studying pattern assessments, is  matching the energy of the individual with the energy of the appropriate herbs.” Training also included formulating herbal teas, decoctions, tinctures elixirs, syrups, liniments, salves, oils, and herbal treats for children and adults.

Beverly’s background includes the study of many types of healing food therapies including Chinese teas, congees, soups, and herbs, Detox Therapies, Juicing, Raw Foods and  Macrobiotic foods. She received her training in Macrobiotic Cooking with Roxanne Koteles, Certified macrobiotic Teacher (Kushi Institute) and Certified Chef, New England Culinary Institute. She attended the Starting Point Wellness School in the Bay area and completed Wellness Cuisine Chef Certification, Levels I and II and also studied with Thrivin Edibles Chef Patti at Cafe Gratitude in Santa Cruz, CA.

Certified Massage Therapist

Beverly is a Certified Massage Therapist and Graduate of Twin Lakes College of the Healing Arts in Santa Cruz, Ca., with over 1,000 hours of training in the following modalities: Clinical Massage Therapy, Postural Analysis, Swedish, Deep Tissue, Shiatsu, Acupressure, Trigger Point Therapy, Intrinsic Touch (a form of cranial sacral balance and occipital therapy), Soft Tissue release (myofascial), Hand and Foot Reflexology,  Reiki and Chakra Balance.

She studied Traditional Hawaiian Lomi Lomi with native Kahuna Papa K Kepilino in Hilo, HI in 2007 and studied Polarity Therapy with James Kent,  a 30+ years Polarity Therapist and Teacher. She has worked with Naturopathic and Osteopathic offices, Chiropractic and Physical Therapy clinics and  spas, as well as her own licensed, private practice, Herbal Vital Health, since 2003. Her specialties and strong skills are in Soft Tissue Release, Intrinsic Touch, Shiatsu, Deep Tissue and Trigger Point Therapy for relief of pain (chronic or acute), especially for rotary cuff, bursitis,neck and shoulder and back issues. She also includes, when necessary, oriental bodywork therapies such as cupping, scraping (gua sha), moxabustion, liniments, ginger poultices and castor oil packs for softening scar tissue and moving stagnant blood and chi (energy).
